I usually bust a few hypnobirthing myths at the start of each course… and I often see my clients sighing with relief, especially when they realise I won’t be dangling watches around or getting them to cluck like chickens.🐔 Here are 4 of the most common myths I bust..
1) You’re gonna get hypnotised… MYTH! The ‘hypno’ bit of hypnobirthing comes from ‘hypnotherapy’. It’s a talking therapy using relaxation to influence the way you think about things (and hence how your body responds). It’s all based in psychology and the origin of the word ‘hypno’ is that it’s Greek for ‘sleep’ (hence all of the relaxation stuff).
2) It’s a bit ‘alternative’….MYTH! Not in the least. You certainly won’t find any chanting, wishy-washy nonsense or anything remotely hippyish in my course. It’s all solidly based in psychology, biology and well-respected, highly credible research.
3) It’s only for a certain way of giving birth… MYTH! It doesn’t matter where or how you’re planning to give birth and whether it’s your first baby or your fifth. If you’re growing a new little person ♥️ then hypnobirthing is for you.
4) You have to go drug-free in your labour…..MYTH! With your hypnobirthing knowledge and techniques you might not need anything more… but if you do, my course covers the various drugs available and how to use your hypnobirthing techniques with them.
